WEST
OMAHA WOMEN'S TENNIS LEAGUE
SINGLES LEAGUE RULES
Please
try to follow the assigned schedule so that you are playing on or ahead of schedule. If you know in advance that you will not be able
to play during a particular week, call your opponent.
Do not wait until she calls you.
The
number beside your name is your identification in the schedule throughout the season. If your number is listed first, you are to call
your opponent to make the arrangements for the match.
You are also responsible for bringing an unopened can of balls for the match.
VERY
IMPORTANT: It is the responsibility of each
player to see that all matches are played; therefore, do not rely entirely on your opponent to call you. Players who work should initiate all matches. Any problems in scheduling matches, no-shows, and
lateness should be reported to the league rep. At
the Board's discretion, a player may be removed from the league if there are consistent
complaints.
Matches
are to be played in a timely manner. In the
event of an injury, and you are uncertain as to how long you will be unable to play, or if
you know it will take several weeks to recover, you may take a medical leave. You will be placed at the top of the waiting list
for the next season.
Players
who live outside Omaha are welcome to join the WOWTL leagues, however they must be willing
to play all matches in Omaha. Players who
work should schedule their matches in the evening or on weekends. Please try not to get behind on the playing
schedule because of work schedules. Plan
ahead! WOWTL is an outdoor league and matches
should be played outside. Matches may be
scheduled indoors due to extreme heat or rain if agreed upon by both players.
All
players will exhibit good conduct and sportsmanship (e.g., no visible or audible profanity
or obscenity; no verbal or physical abuse of players; no abuse of racket, balls, or
equipment; no retaliatory calls). The players
involved should address the misconduct or unsportsmanlike behavior at the time of
occurrence. Each offensive incident should be
reported to the league representative. After
each reported incident, the league representative will discuss the incident with the
player. After 3 occurrences, the player will
be dropped from the league.
UNPLAYED
MATCHES
It
is the intention of this league that all matches are played. In the case of unplayed matches, neither player
shall receive any credit for the match. The
player who is responsible for the failure to play the match shall be charged with a
forfeit. A player who is charged with a
forfeit will not be eligible for a prize, and a player who is charged with two forfeits
will be dropped from the league for the next year. (She
may be placed on the waiting list, if desired.) The
other player will not be penalized for the unplayed match, but will not receive any credit
for it either. Therefore, it is in the
interest of both players to play.
TERMINATION OF MATCH
If for any
reason a match is not completed the game score at the point the match is stopped will
stand with the player stopping play forfeiting the remaining games. If a game is stopped before completion the win
will be awarded to the player that is not defaulting.
In the event of split sets, the defaulting player will forfeit the 2 game
tie-breaker. Contact your league
representative if any questions or problems arise. In
the event of weather delay, rain, or lightning players should reschedule to play at a
later date starting up from the point they quit. Both
players should record and agree on the score before leaving.
SCORING
Singles
matches shall consist of two regulation sets. The first player to win 6 games, with a margin of
at least 2 games, wins the set. If the set score reaches 6-6, a set tie-breaker (see Set
Tie-breaker page) shall be played to determine the winner of the set. The tie-breaker played when games are at 6-6, will
count as 1 game. The final score will be
reported as 7-6.
If
each player has won 1 set, a deciding match tie-breaker shall be played. This consists of the player who first wins 10
points with a margin of 2 points over her opponent (see Deciding Match Tie-breaker page). The player who wins the deciding match tie-breaker
will be given a score of 2 games won. The winner of that tie-breaker will receive a score
of 2-0 for the third set. The loser of that
tie-breaker will receive a score of 0-2 for the third set.
This procedure was established to eliminate the playing of a full third set
in order to save time.
Singles
leagues scoring will be on a percentage basis, the number of games won divided by the
number of games played. This method of
scoring will determine final standings. Standings
in the league are based on total percentages of
all matches, and prizes are awarded on that basis, not on the basis of matches won.
Please
agree on the final score of the match before leaving!
When
on the court, turn OFF your cell phone!
Do not bring children to the court!
DROP OUTS
In order to qualify for a league prize, singles players must complete all matches. A player who drops out within the first three weeks will be replaced, if possible. The replacement player will begin the league without a percentage. A player who drops out after the third week will not be replaced. No scores of matches that have been played with a player who drops out will count in the standings.
A
player who drops out of any league for any reason other than an emergency or a medical reason will be dropped from WOWTL. If she wished to rejoin, she will be placed at the
bottom of the waiting list. A person who has two (2) years of consecutive medical drops may be reassigned to a lower league at the WOWTL
boards discretion. A member who signs
up to play singles and doubles and during the season drops-out of one, but not both
leagues, for any reason, will be placed on the
waiting list for the league she dropped the following year.
Please
familiarize yourself with these rules. If
any problems or questions arise, feel free to contact your league representative or board
members for help.
